This year's Summer Bridge Program will begin Friday, June 21st through Saturday, July 27th!
Every Summer, the Office of Tutoring & Learning Support Services offers a comprehensive SUMMER BRIDGE program for incoming Howard University freshmen.
Approximately fifty students are accepted each year. Our goal is to provide these students with an early opportunity to complete coursework, acclimate to Howard's campus, experience the Washington DC community, and build their own living and learning community. In addition to getting a head start on their collegiate path by enrolling in a mathematics and introductory course, Summer Bridge students also participate in weekly college success seminars that exposes them to Howard's various academic support services and resources. Additionally, Summer Bridge students are provided tutoring services and participate in Bison PrEP, Howard's new student orientation.
S.T.E.M. Succeed - "Students That Excel in Mathematics Succeed" aims to increase the enrollment, persistence, and completion of targeted S.T.E.M. degree programs at Howard University. Additonally, this program addresses a significant national problem: the inability of many students, in particular minority students, to be adequately prepared for General Chemistry I. A cycle of failure may set in when students who are underprepared, are confronted with first-year Chemistry material. Failure to succeed in their beginning courses lessens the chance that students will successfully complete a science major and therefore unacceptably narrows their career choices.
