OSST: Orientation Checklist

Contact: Mr. Ernest Elliott, OSST Phone: (202) 806-4029 orientation@howard.edu

Below is a list that you can use as a guide to help you prepare for and campus and residence life. Look over this check-list to make sure you have completed all of the essentials and that you are aware of all important information. NOTE: Rooms in the residence halls are smaller than regular rooms; please pack accordingly.

Before Leaving Home …

Don’t Forget To …

  • Bring photo identification when you come to check-in.
  • Clearly print your name and address on all shipped luggage.
  • NOT bring a microwave or other electrical cooking appliances; they are not permitted in the residence halls.
  • Bring a copy of all pending documents (e.g. transcripts, syllabi, etc), if you are a transfer student. The University’s Undergraduate Transfer Credit Policy is available online.
  • Make an inventory list of the property you’re bringing to campus. Make a duplicate list of all items that contains each item’s serial number, where applicable; leave one copy at home and keep the other copy with you. If you have valuable property that doesn’t have a serial number, use an engraver to mark it with your name and ID number.
  • Check with your parents’ insurance company to see if your property is covered while away at college.
