CAE: Students that Excel in Math Succeed

Office: 2nd Floor, Carnegie Building (202) 806-4029

The goal of Students that Excel in Math Succeed (S.T.E.M. Succeed) is to increase the enrollment, persistence, and completion of underrepresented, underprepared, or low-income students in targeted STEM degree programs at Howard University.

S.T.E.M. Succeed is an academic support program that focuses on increasing mathematics proficiency of students enrolled in targeted STEM majors. Using institutional student data including academic preparation, performance in selected courses, and instructor assessments, a Plan for Academic Success in STEM (PASS) will be developed for each student by S.T.E.M. Succeed faculty, advisers, and the participants.

The PASS will include:

  • Expected performance targets and timelines;
  • An interactive study plan which will be monitored by advisers; and
  • Individual and group study and tutor sessions

Concentration is the secret of strength in politics, in war, in trade, in short, in all management of human affairs. One of the high anecdotes of the world is the reply of Newton to the inquiry, “how he had been able to achieve his discoveries?”— “By always intending my mind.”
